Detox Your Skin and Makeup

Being healthy and aging well are very important to me.

Because you focus on what matters to you, I focus a lot on eating clean, whole foods, mostly plants, because I understand that what I put into my body matters. And eating a plant-based diet prevents disease–literally.

On a daily basis, I try to respect my body and treat it like a finely-tuned machine–I need my body to work for me, because I have a lot of important work to do. I’m a busy mom to 4, I work full-time, and I’m an avid long distance runner. I need my body to “perform and respond” when I need it to. So it makes sense that I would work hard to avoid damage to my “machine.”

It’s for this simple reason that I try to avoid sugar (highly addictive and highly inflammatory), highfructose corn syrup (leading cause of leaky gut and joint pain), processed and preserved foods (full of toxic chemicals that cause free radical and cell damage) and artificial sweetners (neurotoxic and damaging to the nervous system) and keep them out of my  “engine”.

I have been researching and learning a lot about the toxins that are found in beauty care products: products for our skin, including makeup, and hair care products–for myself and for my children.

As a detox specialist, it is important to me that I while I detox on the “inside” with clean whole food eating, that I dont accidentally add toxins to the “outside” on my skin, hair, nails, and teeth.

And as an age management specialist, it is also important to me that I am aware of the toxins that are dangerous to my health, immune system, and aging process.

I have put together a startling list of chemicals that are commonly found in products that I had been purchasing, not knowing how dangerous they were for me and my family.

If I am going to take the time and pay attention to what I feed and fueling my body with, it makes sense that I would also need to take the same time, and also pay attention to what I put on my skin, hair and nails.

Here is a list of common chemicals/Cosmetic Ingredients Linked to Cancer, allergic reaction, liver damage, rashes, brain damage, and more.

You can find a more extensive list and more details at “safe cosmetics”:

Read your cosmetic labels, seek out companies that offer natural, non-toxic beauty solutions, that are environmentally and animal friendly.

After learning this information, I now know better. And now that I know better, I do better.

I also bring my own polish to my spa, and I take a pass on the paraffin wax treatment.

This is my favorite toxin-free nail polish–Ella + Mila–I love the variety of colors and the cruelty-free, PETA friendly brand.
