My Dairy-Free Journey:
I often share how reading “The China Study” (on my way to a family vacation to Disneyland about 8 years ago) changed my life and my family’s life forever.
It opened my eyes to the link between food and health, food and disease, food and cancer, food and autoimmune disease.
From that moment on, I removed dairy from our home and our life, and it has made all the difference in our health–and in our pocket book.
Food became our health insurance.
Yes, it was really hard going to the “happiest place on Earth” which is also the worst-place-to-eat-well on Earth as a newly dairy-free family. But i could not, in good conscience, feed my children dairy. Once I knew better, I had to do better. It has was was hard to be newly dairy-free at Disneyland and on vacation, but it was worth it. And good food is everywhere–you just have to look for it.
Removing dairy was on the best things that I ever did as the momma of my children.
Once I removed dairy, our quality of life dramatically improved: No more ER visits for asthma attacks and croup in my little ones, no more midnight nebulizer treatments with stimulants and steroids, no more eczema, no more steroid cremes, and no more tummy aches.
If you suspect that dairy is causing a problem for you, your health or the health of your family, try switching to a nut milk and removing dairy products from your diet for a few weeks. There is life beyond–and without–dairy. I promise. And in my family’s case, it was a much better life.
And: Make sure your nut milks are carageenen-free.
