Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing
Skin brushing, also called body brushing, has many health benefits.
It has been a foundational component to the cleansing philosophy of Ayurveda science dating back 5,000 years.
It supports many important body functions. It acts like a gentle massage, and benefits your skin, circulation, and lymphatic system.
Additional benefits of dry skin brushing:
- Exfoliates: It helps shed dead skin cells, unclog pores, and stimulates new healthy cell growth.
- It allows for smoother and brighter, more radiant skin.
- It reduces ingrown hair growth.
- Promotes circulations: It stimulates blood flow.
- Support detoxification: It stimulates lymphatic drainage.
- Support muscle tone: It stimulates nerves and can tighten sagging muscles.
- Reduces cellulite: Reduces the toxic fat build-up in the tissues that gives the “cottage cheese” appearance to skin.
- It feels great 🙂
How do I dry skin brush?
Dry skin brushing is simple to do, and you can do it everyday.
- Gently move the bristles of a natural skin brush along your skin,
- Begin at the soles of your feet: use small gentle strokes along your legs towards your groin and up towards your heart.
- Do the same for your arms: Begin at your finger tips and use small gentle strokes along your arms towards your heart.
- Next (using a long handle brush or get your partner to help out), brush your back.
- Dry brush your abdomen, brushing in a small clockwise direction (to follow the natural motion of your colon).
- Use the same circular motion for your chest and neck, brushing towards your heart.
- Remember: It’s best to avoid your face: your facial skin is too sensitive for dry brushing.
You can find a simple and effective skin brush at any bath store (like bed, bath, beyond for example, or at amazon)
Dry Brushing ProTips:
*I skin brush before I shower, so I can wash off the dead skin in the shower. And then end my shower with a hot/cold contrast to further boost circulation.
*You can dry skin brush before an epsom salt bath, too.
*I dry brush for about three-to-five minutes–until my skin is rosy and slightly tingly.
* Avoid sharing dry brushes: Every member of the family should have their own dry brush.
*Periodically wash the dry brush bristles gently in the shower.
Skin brushing is a rejuvenating, healthy, daily habit that can boost your immune system and your health.
